About the Webinar

This webinar will provide headteachers, modern foreign languages subject leads and teachers with an understanding of and guidance on the expectations that Ofqual place on awarding bodies when assessing subject content and GCSE qualifications in French, German and Spanish.

On 14 June 2022, Ofqual published their GCSE subject-level guidance for French, German and Spanish. The document forms part of a suite of documents which outline their guidance for awarding organisations offering GCSE Qualifications in French, German and Spanish and provides schools with an insight into what will be looked at during assessments and how they can best prepare students.

This webinar will explore what Ofqual’s requirements are, how they are linked directly to subject content, aims and learning objectives for modern foreign languages and what these expectations mean for schools.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the main purpose of the document and the statutory requirements that awarding bodies must comply with when assessing GCSE French, German and Spanish.

  • Recognising Ofqual requirements with respect to the assessment of speaking and writing and what should be considered in line with the expectations of students.

  • Identifying assessment objectives and weightings published by Ofqual and how these are meant to be interpreted.

  • Realising how schools can use the information and guidance provided by Ofqual to help shape classroom provision and best prepare students for assessments.

  • Reviewing the subject content, aims and learning objectives for modern foreign language GCSEs and how these link in with the Ofqual guidance.
