This webinar will provide EYFS school leaders, teachers and practitioners with an insight into how to develop children’s understanding of the world in line with the DfE’s reformed Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and supportive curriculum guidance.

The DfE’s revised EYFS Framework will become statutory for all schools in September 2021. Early adopter schools are already adhering to the framework, supported by the recent DfE ‘Development Matters’ curriculum guidance, which sets out the pathways of children’s development, including understanding the world.

In this webinar, Nicola Townsend, national lead practitioner, deputy principal and highly experienced early years senior leader, explores how schools can prepare for the new EYFS reforms in order to help children build important knowledge and help foster their understanding of our culturally, socially, technologically and ecologically diverse world.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to help children understand the world in line with the EYFS Framework reforms and what impact they will have on current teaching and learning in early years.

  • Recognising the duties placed on schools under the revised EYFS Framework in terms of education programmes and early learning goals for understanding the world.

  • Developing a strategy for implementing changes to the school’s curriculum so that it is compliant with the EYFS Framework statutory requirements.

  • Understanding how schools can encourage children to develop their understanding of the past, learn about different people, cultures and communities and explore the natural world.

  • Identifying the characteristics of effective teaching and learning through early years in order for children to develop a strong grounding in understanding the world.
