About the Webinar

This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders, teachers and SENCOs with advice and practical guidance on using assistive technology (AT), from the most basic to highly complex, to help pupils with SEND overcome barriers to learning.

A vast range of AT exists to help pupils with SEND access the curriculum, from simple, low-tech tools to extremely complex, high-tech equipment to help pupils perform everyday functions, such as reading, writing, maths, organisation, memory, communication and social interaction.

In this webinar, nasen, (National Association for Special Educational Needs), the leading charitable membership organisation who support those working with children with SEND, will provide an overview of the vast range of AT available and explain how schools can undertake self-evaluation and action-planning to support the development of policy and practice.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how the provision of AT can enhance schools’ SEND policy and practice by improving accessibility and inclusivity

  • Appreciating the broad range of AT available to help pupils with SEND access opportunities for learning and social interaction, and achieve their potential

  • Recognising that AT can help pupils perform a variety of everyday activities to enhance inclusivity and wellbeing, as well as academic performance

  • Understanding which accessibility features are freely available, including those supplied with Microsoft Office 365

  • Appreciating practical considerations, including what technology is available, and being able to identify the right tools and who will use them
