About the Webinar

As schools continually feel the pressure to improve pupil outcomes in maths, Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) is fast becoming a well-known approach to raising standards in teaching and learning. Dylan Wiliam, internationally recognised leader in formative assessment, has described CLT as ‘the single most important thing for teachers to know’. In this webinar, Ben Harding, a former primary school headteacher and Ofsted inspector, will bring the implications of CLT to life. Discussing the importance of CLT within a whole school approach to teaching numeracy, Ben will explain the benefits of CLT and how it can strengthen and enhance school maths curriculums.

Learning Outcomes

  • The implications of CLT as an integral part of a whole school approach to teaching numeracy

  • The importance of CLT to individual teachers and school leaders

  • How CLT can help ensure children acquire, store and use the core knowledge of the primary mathematics curriculum

  • Demystifying good practice and expose illogical approaches that have recently crept into UK classrooms
