About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 45 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders, teachers and practitioners with the knowledge and skills to develop an effective approach to supporting and sustaining outstanding behaviour in schools based on the EEF’s guidance report 'Improving social and emotional learning in primary schools'.

Social and emotional learning is a means by which children can learn to regulate their emotions, and brings a range of benefits, helping them to focus on tasks, show empathy, interact positively with others, make responsible decisions, and can have a positive impact on academic outcomes.

In this webinar, Megan Dixon, specialist literacy teacher and senior leader who has worked closely with the EEF, DfE and Ofsted, takes schools step by step through EEF’s evidence-based guidance so that they can embed an effective approach to social and emotional learning which benefits both individual pupils and the whole school.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to develop an approach to social and emotional learning to enhance pupil outcomes in specific school settings.

  • Appreciating the term ‘social and emotional learning’ and the range of benefits this approach can bring to children’s lives and the school community.

  • Gaining familiarity with the EEF’s guidance on teaching strategies and on planning and implementing a dedicated social and emotional learning programme.

  • Recognising how to reinforce social and emotional skills via whole-school norms and activities, engaging pupils, staff and parents in the process.

  • Understanding the importance of monitoring and evaluating the impact of the social and emotional learning approach to inform future provision.
